Laser Scanner Survey and Restoration Project for Villa Giustiniani in Bari

Laser Scanner Survey and Restoration Project for Villa Giustiniani in Bari

Archimeter has conducted a laser scanner survey of the hypogeum of Villa Giustiniani, an ancient building located in the San Pasquale district of Bari.

Despite its evident state of abandonment, Villa Giustiniani holds historical importance due to the underlying hypogeum of uncertain dating, which has been subject to in-depth archaeological and geological research. The 3D laser scanner survey has provided a precise understanding of the volumetric configuration of the underground chambers, their relationship with the overlying building, and the material characteristics of the structure, partially constructed with masonry and partially excavated within the limestone bedrock.

The restoration and recovery project, based on the laser scanner survey, aims to revitalize the entire site, enhancing its value and accessibility. This includes the structural consolidation of the rock formation and the villa above, as well as the restoration of the remaining troughs and feeding troughs within the hypogeum as evidence of its ancient purpose.
